On May 11th, 2024, with the support of the national key research and development plan "100 MWh sodium-ion battery energy storage technology" project, Guangxi Power Grid Company, together with Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Company, Chinese Academy of Sciences Physics Research Institute, HiNa battery Technology Co., Ltd. and other units, jointly developed the world's first 10 MWh sodium-ion battery grid-side energy storage power station, which was officially put into operation in Nanning, Guangxi. This is the first time that China's sodium-ion battery technology has achieved large-scale application.
Sodium-ion batteries have a wide range of raw materials, abundant reserves, low prices, and high energy conversion efficiency, with advantages such as fast charging and good low-temperature performance. They are expected to be applied to large-scale electrochemical energy storage, electric vehicles, engineering machinery and other fields, becoming the lowest cost electrochemical energy storage technology. Together with other energy storage technologies, we will accelerate the development of new energy storage power stations in our country towards centralized large-scale development, and promote the high proportion of large-scale wind and photovoltaic power generation.
The Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Zhongke HaiNa, as the undertaking and participating units of the "100 MWh Sodium-ion Battery Energy Storage Technology" project, have developed high-performance sodium-ion batteries with the advantages of wide working temperature range, fast charging, and good rate multiplication. They can be charged 90% in 12 minutes and are the basic unit of the entire sodium-ion battery grid-side energy storage system. HaiNa battery has successfully delivered the first batch of 10 MWh sodium-ion batteries to the Southern Power Grid before the new year for trial production verification and performance evaluation of the power station.
The official commissioning of the power station marks a key breakthrough in the research and development of large-scale energy storage technology for sodium-ion batteries. This progress not only demonstrates the strength of China in the field of Renewable Energy and energy storage technology, but also provides strong support for future energy structure transformation and green development. In addition, the commissioning of the sodium-ion battery energy storage power station helps to solve the problem of consumption of Renewable Energy, promote the development of Renewable Energy, and play an important role in achieving peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality goals.
Next, Hina battery will continue to promote the research and production of sodium-ion batteries, accelerate the application verification of large-scale energy storage, distributed energy storage and industrial energy storage, and provide important support for the development of sodium-ion batteries in our country.
